This is the classic Soviet "frying pan" MBT design with the production numbers as high as 60,000. Many tanks were exported to Soviet states and supported countries around the world. The basic model was updated and upgraded into newer models which have night-vision equipment, anti-aircraft machine guns and navigation or communication systems. Many T-54/55 have been retrofitted with NBC protection for the crews.
